U.S. Chamber of Commerce Backs Scott Peters for Re-Election Over his Republican Opponent

October 5, 2016

Scott Peters announced a major endorsement today from the United States Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business group representing 3 million American businesses, 96% of which are small businesses. The U.S. Chamber advocates for economic growth and job creation and rarely endorses Democrats. Scott Peters was one of only four Democrats endorsed by the Chamber in 2014.

“The reforms and investments we need to support job creation and the entrepreneurs that drive our innovation economy take cooperation from both sides,” said Scott Peters. “I appreciate this endorsement because it recognizes my ability to work with both political parties to break through the gridlock and get things done.”

Rob Engstrom, the Senior Vice President and National Political Director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, had the following statement: “We need more pragmatic and commonsense leaders like Scott Peters. Peters is focused on getting things done for the 52nd District, not scoring political points. He understands the issues that matter to families and employers in San Diego and has a record of getting things done, from removing regulatory barriers and burdensome taxes to creating opportunities for innovators and entrepreneurs. The U.S. Chamber is proud to stand with the San Diego Chamber to support Scott Peters and we look forward to continuing to work with him.”

Congressman Peters has been a consistent advocate for tax and immigration reform – priorities shared by the business community. He was one of only 28 Democrats to vote for Trade Promotion Authority and is one of just a handful who have publically supported the Trans Pacific Partnership, a key to creating high-quality jobs in port and border regions like San Diego.

The endorsement from the U.S. Chamber and previous endorsements from the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown San Diego Partnership, and Biocom, a leading advocacy organization for the life science community, demonstrate the overwhelming support for Scott Peters’ reelection among job creators in San Diego and across the country.

Peters was joined at the announcement by dozens of business leaders representing some of San Diego’s largest employers, as well as small business owners. Peters thanked the Chamber and vowed to continue his efforts to help grow the economy by working with members of all political parties.
