Scott Peters Thanks San Diegans for Re-Election, Looks Ahead

November 10, 2018

San Diego — Today, Scott Peters released the following statement after voters elected him to a fourth term in Congress on Tuesday:

“My service in Congress is built around San Diego’s priorities, and I think people have come to know me as a pragmatic problem solver who is more interested in getting things done than in hyper partisanship. I return to Congress with renewed vigor and commitment to look for ways to reach across the aisle and work with everyone to find solutions to the challenges facing our region, and our nation.

“I will continue to seek common ground with all of my colleagues to improve our health care system, to build an economy that lifts up everyone, to find smart, innovative ways to protect our air and water, and to pass gun safety reform, which is supported by 90 percent of the country.

“In January of 2017 I issued a statement of where I would draw the line with the then new Trump Administration. I continue to be committed to those principles. While I think many problems have bipartisan solutions, as I stated then, I will not compromise ever – ever – when it comes to standing up for the rights of all Americans to be treated justly and to be given a fair shot at opportunity. I’ll continue to fight for high safety standards and fair wages for workers, for humane treatment of immigrants seeking asylum, for the rights of women to make their own health care decisions, and for equal pay and protections for LGBT Americans.

“I want to thank my smart, talented and dedicated government and campaign staffs for their hard work and commitment to service and country. Every day I am proud of them and am grateful.

“Thank you, too, to everyone who donated, and made phone calls, and knocked doors and urged their friends, families and neighbors to vote. My win is your win. You made it happen.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to represent San Diego, Poway and Coronado in the U.S. House of Representatives, and I am very grateful to the voters for giving me such a strong vote of confidence on Tuesday.”
