Today, the Scott Peters for Congress campaign released their final ad of 2016: “Right Here.” The ad highlights Rep. Peters’ profile as a national leader in the fight to curb gun violence.

Peters opens the ad over images of memorials from shootings around the nation, “Senseless gun violence. It keeps happening all over the country. And Washington fails to act.”

Peters continues, “So when Congress failed to act again, we took the fight straight to the American people,” referencing his historic role in the House Democratic sit-in demanding votes on bipartisan gun safety measures. After Republican leadership turned off the cameras in the House of Representatives, Rep. Peters livestreamed the protest for 15 hours, bringing millions of Americans into the conversation about the tragedy of gun violence and how to fix it.

The sit-in was an effort to force votes on two bipartisan proposals that Rep. Peters has co-sponsored to toughen background checks and ban suspected terrorists on the no-fly list from buying guns.

“I’m Scott Peters and I approve this message, because it’s time to get something done,” Rep. Peters says, closing the ad.

Rep. Peters is endorsed by Americans for Responsible Solutions, a non-profit organization that urges elected officials to stand up for solutions to prevent gun violence and protect responsible gun ownership. It was founded by former Rep. Gabby Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, in the weeks following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting of 2012. Denise Gitsham raised nearly $50,000 from executives of Cerberus Capital Management, a New York private equity firm that owns one of the largest gun and ammunition manufacturers in the U.S. Among the gun companies Cerberus owns is Bushmaster Firearms, maker of the AR-15 that was used to kill 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2013.

“There is no better example of America’s frustration with a Washington that doesn’t work for them than House Republican leadership’s refusal to even allow Congress a vote on bipartisan proposals to curb gun violence,” said MaryAnne Pintar, Peters’ campaign manager. “Rep. Peters raised the curtain and turned up the heat on Republicans’ refusal to allow action to deter gun violence and he’ll keep up the fight should voters give him the honor of returning him for a third term.”

Right Here” will begin airing on cable and broadcast in the San Diego area on Tuesday, November 1st.
