Scott Peters Campaign Raises the Curtain on Gitsham’s Conservative Backing

October 6, 2016

Today, the Scott Peters Campaign offered some transparency into a group supporting Denise Gitsham that claims to be a voice for small business interests. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), whose backing Gitsham has touted as a counter to the overwhelming support that Rep. Peters has received from San Diego job creators, is a right wing conservative group whose contributions and endorsements are more partisan in favor of Republicans than even the National Rifle Association.

Gitsham has used their so-called small business scorecard in an attack ad. The scorecard is made up of just 14 votes selected to favor right-wing Republicans and includes a bill to repeal the estate tax, which is a massive tax break for the richest Americans that would drive our country further into debt and has nothing to do with supporting small business owners in San Diego.

“An endorsement from the NFIB is an endorsement from extreme right-wing interests in D.C.,” said MaryAnne Pintar, Peters’ campaign manager. “In stark contrast, Scott Is backed by groups from across the political spectrum, from women’s health advocates at Planned Parenthood to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which represents 3 million business owners and has endorsed just four other Democrats in 2016.”

“Former D.C. lobbyist Denise Gitsham would only add to the partisan problem in Congress,” Pintar added.
