Today, during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the Scott Peters for Congress Campaign announced that a number of leaders in San Diego’s Filipino-American community are backing Rep. Peters’ campaign for reelection.
Earlier this year, Peters announced the names of dozens of leaders from San Diego’s Chinese-American and Vietnamese-American communities – Democrats and Republicans – who are supporting his campaign for reelection over his opponents.
“Our strong Filipino-American community includes leaders across the public and private sectors and has contributed a great deal to the San Diego region,” Peters said. “Filipino-Americans are also an essential part of San Diego’s veterans community. After years of advocating for this, I was glad to see the White House take steps this week to reunite Filipino-American WWII veterans with family members living abroad, many of whom have been waiting decades for visas. I will continue working to honor the brave service of our Filipino-American veterans.”
Peters continued, “It is my honor to represent our Asian-American communities in Congress, and I am grateful for the support of these and other civic leaders.”
Peters, who is serving in his second term in the U.S. House of Representatives, is a member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and the Congressional Philippines Caucus.
