SAN DIEGO, CA – Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) today announced that he, along with Congresswoman Susan Davis and the Contractors State License Board, will host a FREE Senior Scam Stopper seminar (www.SeniorScamStopper.com) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2013. The event will take place at the Mary & Gary West Senior Wellness Center, 1525 4th Ave., in downtown San Diego.
The panel will include representatives from the Contractors State License Board, California Public Utilities Commission, San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, and others, who will offer advice and assistance to seniors about how to protect themselves against fraud related to home repairs, auto repair, insurance, telecommunications and identity theft. Attendees can also get help if they think they have been defrauded.
“Sadly, there are unscrupulous people out there who will take advantage of others this way, and our seniors are too often the victims,” said Peters. “I want my constituents to have the information and tools they need to protect themselves against fraud.”
Seniors, their families, and caregivers are welcome to attend. Seating will be limited to a first come, first served basis. Metered street parking is available near the Senior Wellness Center. Public transportation is available via bushttp://www.sdmts.com/mtscr/BusRoutes.aspx, trolley http://www.sdmts.com/Trolley/Trolley.asp, and the Coasterhttp://www.gonctd.com/coaster#coaster.
