Rep. Peters’ Statement on Passage of Philippines Charitable Giving Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 3771, the “Philippines Charitable Giving Assistance Act,” which allows cash contributions for victims of Typhoon Haiyan made before April 15, 2014, to be counted in the 2013 tax year:

“After the devastating typhoon hit the Philippines late last year, San Diegans within our local Filipino community and beyond stepped up to help, sending needed funds to help get the country back on its feet. The rebuilding effort is certainly not complete, and will ultimately require continued assistance from concerned citizens around the world. Congress must continue to work on various proposals, including today’s, to ensure that our constituents’ family and friends living in the Philippines are not forgotten.”
