San Diego — The NRCC today attacked Rep. Scott Peters for opposing both parties’ partisan budgets. Of course the release failed to acknowledge that Rep. Peters voted to support the bipartisan budget crafted by Republican Rep. Paul Ryan and Democratic Sen. Patty Murray. The NRCC also failed to say that Carl DeMaio, while on the City Council, never — not once — voted for a budget. In fact, he was the lone-wolf ‘no vote’ 102 times while on the City Council, voting NO on every one of Republican Mayor Jerry Sanders’ budgets that the mayor developed by working with Democrats and Republicans. That’s exactly why Mayor Sanders, a fellow Republicanlambasted DeMaio at a 2012 press conference, accusing DeMaio of “mak(ing) things up” and pointing out that DeMaio “never voted for a budget” because doing so “might have muddied up (DeMaio’s) political calculations.” “Carl DeMaio delights in causing gridlock for the sole purpose of feeding his own political ambitions,” said Alex Roth, communications director for the Scott Peters for Congress Campaign. “That’s why he’s so fond of the Tea Party and that’s the mentality he’ll bring to Washington, D.C.. It’s the exact mentality that has made people so fed up with Congress.”
