Kicking off National Police Week, Rep. Scott Peters announced today that the San Diego Police Officers Association (SDPOA) is backing his reelection campaign. The SDPOA represents more than 98% of the San Diego Police force, including all ranks within the department.
“As elected leaders, public safety is our number one priority. Since my time on City Council, I have worked with the San Diego police to get them the resources they need to reduce response times and protect themselves while they protect us,” Rep. Peters said. “I am grateful for the job that they do every day to keep our neighborhoods safe, and appreciate their support.”
Last week, Congressman Peters helped pass a proposal that would allow local and state police departments to apply for matching grants to help purchase specialized vests for female police officers.
In a letter announcing the endorsement, the SDPOA said of Rep. Peters, “We believe your qualifications, character and support of law enforcement make you the best candidate. We are confident that you will work with the SDPOA and fight to keep critical funding for important public safety programs.”
Throughout the rest of Police Week, the Scott Peters for Congress campaign will be rolling out additional endorsements that demonstrate his strong record on public safety and the overwhelming support among the law enforcement community for Congressman Peters’ reelection.
