Scott Peters for re-election to Congress yesterday, joining a variety of other LGBT leaders who are backing Peters’ candidacy in the CA-52 district.“I’m proud of this endorsement and for Equality California’s recognition of my long and strong record of standing up for LGBT equality and rights,” Peters said. “I am as committed as ever to ending discrimination in the workplace against LGBT Americans, to ensuring that all are free to marry the person they love and that their marriage is recognized by all states, and that all people are treated fairly and equally by our federal government.” Equality California made the announcement on Thursday, saying it was endorsing Peters and a group of other incumbent members of Congress “who have perfect 100 percent pro-quality scores.“We are proud to endorse these lawmakers, who have all been strong supporters of full equality for LGBT Californians during their time in Congress,” said Rick Zbur, the group’s executive director-elect. “As the tide continues to shift in our favor across the nation, we can rely on these candidates to expand California’s successes in passing pro-equality legislation to the federal level.”In addition to Equality California, Peters has been endorsed by the Human Rights Campaign – the nation’s largest LGBT civil rights organization – as well as numerous prominent LGBT elected and civic leaders in San Diego.
