Congressman Scott Peters Consolidates Pro-Choice, Pro-Equality Support with Backing of National Organization for Women PAC

August 25, 2016

On the eve of Women’s Equality Day, the Scott Peters for Congress campaign announced that the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee has endorsed Congressman Peters for re-election. NOW PAC, which backs candidates who fight to protect women’s health, expand economic opportunity for women, and end violence against women, joins Planned Parenthood Action and the Human Rights Campaign as pro-choice, pro-equality groups that have endorsed Congressman Peters based on his record in Congress.

Peters’ opponent does not support a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions and opposes equal rights for LGBT Americans.

Congressman Peters speaks with female supporters.

“The National Organization for Women has been a leader in the fight for women’s rights for decades, and it was an honor to work with them to fight back against extremist opposition to the Violence Against Women Act reauthorization in 2013, which expanded its protections,” said Peters, who also received NOW PAC’s endorsement during his 2014 and 2012 campaigns.

In a letter announcing the endorsement, the National Organization for Women PAC said, “because of your dedication to feminist issues, the National Organization for Women PAC has re-endorsed your candidacy for election. We look forward to working with you to achieve full equality for women and girls.”

“I learned the importance of standing up for what’s right from my father, a Lutheran minister who worked for housing desegregation in 1960’s Detroit, and have taken those values to Congress to fight to protect a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions and win full quality for our LGBT community,” Peters said.
