Congressman Peters Supports Amendments to End Civilian DoD Furloughs
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement after supporting four amendments that would end civilian furloughs in the Department of Defense Appropriations bill, H.R. 2397. All four amendments to the bill were adopted.
“Furloughing civilian workers in the Department of Defense is not in our national security interest. These furloughs, resulting from sequestration, are hitting more than 25,000 families in San Diego and 650,000 homes across the country.
“It is time that we let these employees come back to work. They did not cause this fiscal mess and should not be forced to pay for Congress’ inability to cooperate in a bipartisan way. While this was not a perfect bill and I have concerns about provisions in it, I was proud to support these amendments and will continue looking for responsible alternatives to the indiscriminate sequester cuts.”
