Congressman Peters’ Statement on Francis Collins, the Director of the National Institutes of Health, visiting San Diego

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement on the Director of NIH, Francis Collins, visiting San Diego. Collins’ visit comes on the heels of President Obama’s BRAIN initiative announcement last week.

“Francis Collins’ visit this week shows to the country and the world the strength of San Diego’s scientists, research institutes and STEM programs at our universities. San Diego is a world leader in scientific research and will play an important role in the President’s brain mapping initiative that he announced last week. Since taking office, I have been an outspoken advocate for scientific funding that will help San Diego stay a leader in science and support our ranking as the second largest life sciences cluster in America. It is critical that America fosters the talent that we already have so we stay globally competitive and don’t fall behind.”
