WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) has been named by the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) to chair its Climate Task Force after joining the group last month, his office announced today.  Peters, a former environmental attorney, has for years championed clean water, air, open space, alternative transportation, and other environmental causes in San Diego.  This year he brought that enthusiasm to Congress.

Congressman Peters stated, “I am honored SEEC selected me to chair this task force, especially given how important it is for San Diego that we start to address the pressing concerns of sea-level rise and increasingly extreme weather events.”

“As a former environmental lawyer and advocate for a greener, environmentally responsible San Diego during my time as City Council President and Port Commissioner, I am honored to continue my work on the House Sustainable Energy and Environmental Coalition (SEEC). I look forward to working with my colleagues to use environmental stewardship to support innovation, commerce and a better quality of life for us all,” Peters said.

SEEC Executive Director Kara Allen said, “SEEC is delighted to have a strong and knowledgeable environmental advocate such as Rep. Peters in our growing group.  We look forward to benefiting from his previous experiences and expertise as the Coalition continues to develop and promote ideas within the environment, energy, and climate areas.”

Through his position on the House Committee on Science, Space, & Technology, Congressman Peters is working to promote environmental sustainability by encouraging both traditional and renewable sources of energy and by focusing in on many of San Diego’s innovative companies that are already generating cutting-edge products and ideas in this sector.
