Capping off a series of local and state law enforcement endorsements during National Police Week, Rep. Scott Peters announced that the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC) is backing his campaign for reelection to Congress. With more than 900 member organizations representing more than 66,000 officers, PORAC is the largest public safety association in California. PORAC includes the San Diego Police Officers Association (SDPOA), whose endorsement Rep. Peters announced on Monday, as well as the San Diego Schools Police Officers Association, the San Diego Harbor Police Officers Association, and the Coronado Police Officers Association. Yesterday, Peters announced support from the California Association of Highway Patrolmen.
“PORAC represents a range of law enforcement officers and agencies – from harbor police who safeguard our economic prosperity by patrolling our ports, to school police who keep our most precious assets, our children, safe in their classrooms. They put themselves in harm’s way every day and I thank them for their courage,” Peters said. “It is our responsibility to give our law enforcement officers the resources they need to protect themselves and our communities. I am honored to have the support of the Peace Officers Research Association of California and will continue working with them to keep our neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces safe.”
In a letter announcing the endorsement, PORAC said of Peters, “You will be an excellent representative for your district, especially in regards to the issues involving public safety. As public safety officers, we appreciate your willingness to keep the avenues of communication open and your concerted efforts to seek our input on issues involving public safety and law enforcement.”
