Former District 1 City Councilman Scott Peters, who is currently running for Congress, headed up a walking tour of Bird Rock highlighting the community’s “smart growth” redevelopment.
Helping Peters with the tour was Dan Burden, executive director of the Walkable and Livable Communities Institute. The sold-out tour, which cost $45 a ticket, was part of several organized in conjunction with the 11th annual New Partners for Smart Growth Conference, taking place this week on Harbor Island in San Diego.
Participants on the “walkability” tour learned about Bird Rock’s road patterns, roundabouts, traffic calming, urban infill, suburban repair and the value of public input in the neighborhood revitalization process.
