Rep. Scott Peters: “Thank you to the voters of California’s New 50th for your faith in me when so much was at stake.”
San Diego — The Scott Peters for Congress campaign released the following statement from Rep. Peters following last night’s strong victory:
“It’s been an honor of a lifetime to represent Coronado, Poway, and San Diego in the United States Congress. I am grateful to those communities for sending me back since 2013. Today, I thank the voters of California’s new 50th Congressional district for electing me.
“For forty-three percent of the households in the new 50th, this was my first time on their ballot. I am particularly grateful to them for putting their faith in me, especially in this election when so much was at stake and the mood of the electorate is so soured by inflated prices at gas pumps and grocery stores, resulting mostly from a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic and Putin’s brutal war against Ukraine. Add to this, the rancor, animosity and division that currently plagues the nation’s politics, an activist Supreme Court stripping away basic protections for women, as well as efforts by many to undermine trust in our very democracy. It has been a daunting year for the country.
“Even in this bitterly partisan and difficult environment, I continue to get on a plane every week with optimism and hope. I’ve tried to lead by example, to tone down the rhetoric and seek solutions instead of the spotlight. I am a proud Democrat, and I will fight for our shared values every minute of every day. But I won’t let that keep me from seeking common ground with my colleagues to solve problems and create a more perfect Union.
“During this campaign, I have enjoyed meeting new people in Balboa Park, Escondido, Rancho Santa Fe and San Marcos, and l look forward to learning more about these beautiful parts of our County.”
Rep. Scott Peters is a Democrat who has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2013. He is a member of the powerful House Energy & Commerce Committee, the House Budget Committee, as well as Vice Chair for Policy of the New Democrat Coalition, which is the largest ideological caucus in the House, and he is presently a Regional Vice Chair for western states of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
