Resources for Families
Childcare
While schools have closed, childcare facilities remain open for parents working in an essential service. Childcare providers are to limit children to ten per group, and children must remain in the same group each day. YMCA Childcare Resource Service encourages parents seeking qualified, licensed facilities to reach out and discuss their childcare needs.
Additionally, the State of California recently launched a child care provider location finder, available in English and Spanish. Simply type in your location to find safe and qualified child care facilities.
Educational Resources
Parents may also visit the San Diego County’s Department of Education for information on educational content available on TV and online during school closures. The CDC has also issued a household preparedness checklist and a guide on how to talk to children about COVID-19.

- The Poway Unified School District also offers “grab and go” meals Monday through Friday, 11am – 1pm at select schools.
- Catholic Charities of San Diego is offering a drive-through emergency food distribution program to families that meet income qualifications. Please place an order with Catholic Charities and wait for confirmation.
Families may also apply for CalFresh benefits via the County of San Diego. Other food related resources can be found by calling 2-1-1.
For families with pets, contact the San Diego Humane Society to learn about their PAWS San Diego program that offers essential pet supplies to families in need.
Rent/Evictions
Governor Newsom recently amended his executive order to institute a statewide ban on eviction notices for renters affected by coronavirus.
Large financial institutions such as Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, US Bank, and Wells Fargo, along with nearly 200 state-chartered banks, have agreed to provide mortgage relief to homeowners as well. Mortgages backed by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae may also be eligible for payment relief. Individuals are advised to work directly with their mortgage service provider to discuss temporary payment delays and other details.
Furthermore, the City of San Diego has issued its own temporary moratorium on residential and commercial evictions from March 25 – May 31, 2020 to prevent further hardship as a result of coronavirus.
Please note: none of these policies permanently waive housing payments, and none apply to all people automatically.
